About Us

Our Story

We made our first bed for our cat. Then a customer asked if their dog could have one too.

Every cat bed we found was made from polyester. Our cat wanted nothing to do with any of them. So we made our own from hemp and wool, and she took to it straight away. We had no idea dogs would feel exactly the same way.

Where it started

We have a cat. Like most cat owners, we went through the usual options: various sizes, various prices, various fabrics. She would sniff them and walk away. After enough of that, we stopped buying and started making.

The material we kept coming back to was hemp. It has a natural earthy scent, a texture that feels organic underfoot, and a warmth that synthetic fabrics simply do not have. Cats are sensitive to all of those things. Our cat settled into the first hemp bed we made within the hour. We had been trying to solve the problem for months.

We started making beds for friends with cats. Then one customer got in touch to ask if a dog could use one. We were not sure, so we suggested they try. Their dog took to it immediately. Since then, we have heard the same thing from dog owners repeatedly: the hemp fabric and wool fill appeal to dogs just as much as cats. The natural scent and texture seem to trigger something instinctive in both animals.

That discovery changed what Hemp Pet Beds became. What started as a solution for one stubborn cat turned into a bed that works for pets of all kinds.

What we believe about pet beds

Pet beds have followed the same formula for years: polyester outer, foam fill, a print that appeals to the owner rather than the animal. The result is beds that look good in product photos and get ignored at home.

We think a pet bed should start with what the animal actually needs. Natural materials that feel familiar, breathe properly, and do not trap heat or odour. A wool fill that regulates temperature rather than going flat. A canvas exterior tough enough to last. Nothing synthetic that your pet has to just tolerate.

That is the standard every Hemp Pet Beds is built to.

Materials

Hemp canvas, hemp fleece, and British wool. No polyester, no synthetic foam, no shortcuts.

Longevity

Built to last. Hemp gets softer with washing rather than wearing out. Wool holds its shape over time.

Honesty

We say what is in every bed. If something changes, we will say that too.

Who Hemp Pet Beds is for

Hemp Pet Beds were designed with cats in mind first. The oval shape, raised sides, and hemp fleece lining suit the way cats like to sleep: enclosed, secure, and on something that feels natural rather than synthetic. If your cat has rejected every bed you have tried, the material is almost certainly the reason.

Dogs responded to the beds in the same way, which surprised us at first. It makes sense now. The instinct to seek out natural, earthy textures is just as strong in dogs. They are also more likely to ignore a polyester bed than most owners realise. Our beds suit dogs of all sizes, from small breeds to larger dogs, and work particularly well for those with sensitive skin or allergies.

If you have spent money on pet beds that ended up unused, the Hemp Pet Beds is worth trying. The difference animals respond to is in the fabric and fill, and it tends to be obvious quite quickly.

Each bed is made to order in our Sussex studio, for cats and dogs alike.
